Instructions to Authors

Scope

The Allelopathy Journal invites original research articles and reviews on allelopathy and related disciplines in aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems, encompassing ecological, agricultural, biological amd Health Sciences applications.

Manuscript Submission

Manuscripts must present original research, not under consideration or previously published elsewhere. Authors must write in clear, concise, active-voice UK English (conforming to Oxford Dictionary spellings). Non-native English speakers must have their manuscript reviewed by a native speaker or a colleague proficient in English. Submission implies consent from all authors and institutional approval.

  • Submit manuscripts in MS Word 2021 as a single file (text, tables, figures).
  • Place tables and figures after the references, indicating preferred positions in the text.
  • Provide names of five international reviewers from outside the author's country, excluding Associate Editors of the Allelopathy Journal.
  • Include two email addresses ( institute and Gmail), a Whatsapp number  (with ISD codes) for reliable correspondence.

Email submissions to Prof. S.S. Narwal, Chief Editor, at chiefeditor@allelopathyjournal.com, info@allelopathyjournal.com. Suitable manuscripts will receive a centralized ID and proceed to an Associate Editor for peer review. will receive a centralized ID and proceed to an Associate Editor for peer review.

After preliminary screening, authors must submit revised manuscripts within 3 days. Peer-reviewed manuscripts requiring further revisions must be returned within 7 days via email.

Nomenclature
  • Use italicized Latin binomial or trinomial names with authorities for plants, insects, microbes, etc.
  • Provide full chemical names for compounds on first mention.
  • Denote crop cultivars (not experimental lines) with single quotation marks on first use (e.g., cv. 'Coral'); use common names thereafter.
  • Define abbreviations and acronyms on first use.
Units and Abbreviations
  • Use metric units for all measurements.
  • Define abbreviations on first use.
  • Use elemental symbols (e.g., N, P, K) for mineral content.
  • Indicate isotopes as 14C, 32P, etc.
  • Denote ions as H+, Mg2+, etc.
  • Use M for molar concentration.
Time and Date Formatting
  • Use the 24-hour format (e.g., 1430 h for 2:30 PM).
  • Provide full dates (e.g., 10 February 1992).
Manuscript Preparation

7.1. Research Papers

Structure manuscripts with the following sections: Abstract, Keywords, Introduction, Materials and Methods, Results and Discussion, Conclusions, Acknowledgements, References.

7.1.1. Formatting

  • Use double-spaced Times New Roman, 12-point font for text, 10-point for references, tables, and footnotes.
  • Format on A4 paper with 4 cm left margin and 2 cm right margin.
  • Number pages consecutively in Arabic numerals (bottom right).
  • Adhere to UK English (conforming to Oxford Dictionary spellings).
  • Define all abbreviations on first use.
  • Retain copies of all materials, as editors/publishers are not responsible for loss or damage.

7.1.2. Title Page

  • Running Title: Maximum 50 characters (including spaces).
  • Full Title: Informative, maximum 70 characters, incorporating key words.
  • Authors: Include names and addresses (research and current, if different).
  • Correspondence Author: Provide WhatsApp number with ISD codes and two email addresses One Institute and Gmail
  • Abstract: 150-200 words summarizing the study.
  • Keywords: Up to 10, listed alphabetically, separated by commas.
  • Introduction: Include if space permits.
  • Use an asterisk (*) to denote the Correspondence Author in a footnote.

7.1.3. Author Addresses

For multiple authors, list addresses separately with superscript numbers. Example:

7.1.4. Abstract

Provide a concise 150-200-word summary, including the study year, location, objectives, and key findings.

7.1.5. Keywords

List up to 10 keywords in alphabetical order, separated by commas.

7.1.6. Text

Write in active voice, past tense, with sections: Introduction, Materials and Methods, Results and Discussion, Conclusions, References. Indent paragraphs by 10 spaces and minimize excessive headings.

  1. Introduction: Explain the study rationale, provide essential background, and state objectives concisely. Add economic importance of donor and recipient plant? Avoid detailed reviews or results.
  2. Materials and Methods: Details of techniques, treatments, replications and statistical design used, citing references. For field studies, include study site details: location (latitude, longitude, rainfall, elevation), dates, and soil properties (pH, fertility). Add date of start and end of the experiment (s). For plant samples, specify phenological phase. For lab studies, add temperature (°C) and light/dark duration. For extracts/leachates, indicate whether fresh or dried plant samples were used and soaking duration. Use past tense.
  3. Results: Present statistically significant findings in past tense, without discussion if separate. Avoid duplicating data in tables and figures. Statistical analysis is required for acceptance.
  4. Tables: Place on separate pages, number in Arabic numerals, and indicate positions in text. Ensure titles are clear and tables fit the journal page size (17 x 12 cm, Times Roman 9-point font).
  5. Figures: Create in MS Excel, place after references, and fit within 17 x 12 cm. Include legends if possible, number in Arabic numerals, and indicate positions in text.
  6. Photographs: Use high-quality color or black-and-white images with titles.
  7. Legends: Add at the end of figure/photograph titles if not included in the image.
  8. Discussion: Evaluate the scientific significance of results, compare with existing research, and provide conclusions. Combine with Results if appropriate.

7.1.7. References

Cite references in-text by number (alphabetical order, ascending) in parentheses, separating multiple citations with commas. List references alphabetically at the end:

  • Periodicals: Shab, N., Huian, S.I., and Nisar, S. (1990). Allelopathic effects of plants on nematodes. Plant and Soil 126: 21-36.
  • Books: Rice, E.L. (1984). Allelopathy. 2nd Ed. Academic Publishers, New York. 424 pp.
  • Book Chapters: Narwal, S.S. (1999). Allelopathy in ecological agriculture. In: Allelopathy in Ecological Agriculture (Eds., S.S. Narwal et al.), pp. 11-32. Kluwer Academic Publishers, Dordrecht, Netherlands.

Ensure all cited references appear in the list and vice versa, with consistent names and years.

Review Papers

Review papers are typically invited by the Chief Editor. Submit to Prof. S.S. Narwal at chiefeditor@allelopathyjournal.com, mailto;allelopathy2021@gmail.com. Follow research paper guidelines, with the following additions:

7.2.1. Title Page

  • Include Running Title, Full Title, Authors, Addresses, Detailed Contents, Abstract, and a footnote for the Correspondence Author.

7.2.2. Text

Use the following heading styles (in bold):

  • Main Heading: 12-point font, centered, capital letters, one line above text.
  • Sub Heading: 10-point font, left-aligned, capital letters, one line above text.
  • Sub-Sub Heading: Left-aligned, one line above text.
  • Sub-Sub-Sub Heading: Left-aligned, in-line with text.
Proofs

Return galley proofs within 3 days of receipt via email to avoid publication delays.

Author (s) Certificate

Submit a scanned certificate on institutional letterhead with the manuscript, confirming:

  1. The research is original.
  2. No content is plagiarized from prior publications.
  3. The manuscript is submitted exclusively to the Allelopathy Journal.
  4. Authors are responsible for the manuscript's content and findings.
  5. Copyright is transferred to the Allelopathy Journal.
  6. Authors will cite the paper in future publications, other than Allelopathy Journal.
  7. Authors will adhere to journal policies.
  8. Authors accept the Chief Editors decision on acceptance or rejection.
  9. Authors agree to pay publication charges/APC
